SIRP - Advanced Training Programs

Advanced Training in Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy provides a complete training program which includes three integrated units: (1) Theory, (2) Assessment and Conceptualization, and (3) Treatment / Practicum. The therapeutic goal of Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy is to help individuals identify their unmet needs, orient their lives according to these needs and thereby transform disharmonious self, ego and defensive organizations and dysfunctional relationships in to more adaptive self and relationship functioning.

The Advanced Training Program in Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy has been developed specifically for professionals (e.g., psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, social workers, etc.) who want to deepen their understanding and enhance their skills in working with persons suffering from trauma related relational and self-disorders and from personality disorders. Many aspects of other theoretical orientations such as experiential therapy, cognitive therapy, family of origin therapy, imago therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, etc. can readily be integrated within the Object Relations Therapy and Self Psychology Paradigm.

Specialists in the field of trauma, such as John Briere, Christine Courtois, Jody Davies and Mary Frawley, advocate the integration of concepts and interventions from Object Relations Therapy and Self Psychology for a comprehensive assessment and treatment of persons suffering from long-term aftereffects of relational and self disorders related to trauma and emotional neglect.
