This unit introduces participants to the assessment instruments specifically designed for work using a Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy approach. The instruments include the Semi-structured Assessment Interview and the Psychosocial Assessment Form using Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy Constructs. The participants learn how to use these instruments to assess and conceptualize clinical material and to write up an assessment within the context of Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy. Based on this assessment, participants learn how to develop an effective treatment plan. In this unit, the participants learn, from a Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy perspective, how to assess for self and relational themes in (1) disorders of the self, (2) relational problems, (3) long-term aftereffects of trauma, (4) personality disorders, and (5) anxiety and mood disorders.

The assessment skills are learned by applying the Psychosocial Assessment Form to the psychosocial and clinical histories of clients with varying levels of emotional difficulties including borderline, narcissistic and schizoid personality disorders and emotional delays.
