I’ve been fortunate to begin my career as a therapist in a Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy (SIRP) focused practice with a SIRP certified supervisor which has contributed to me having foundational understandings of psychotherapy through SIRP lenses. SIRP allows me to truly feel like I’m journeying alongside the client while honoring the idea that the “client is the expert of their own experience”. As a black therapist with predominantly black and minority ethnicity clients, SIRP has provided a lens that is encompassing of general human experience. I’ve greatly appreciated the effectiveness of SIRP as a culturally sensitive and culturally appropriate approach to therapy.
